The fifth annual conference of the Southern Pacific Region of the Zionist Organization of America adopted a resolution calling upon the Z.O.A. to “reaffirm and uphold” its traditional policy of “maintaining absolute neutrality in regard to the internal political affairs of the citizens of Israel.”
Another resolution called upon the parent body to continue to “assist and support” the constructive, economic, social and cultural efforts of all General Zionist bodies in Israel–on the understanding that such aid will not be used for political campaigning in Israel and that the support will “redound to the welfare of the entire state and its government.” Finally, the conference hailed the Z.O.A. for its “loyal support of the Government of Israel in the mobilization of all Zionist forces for the maximum sale of Israel bonds.”
J. M. Alcow, who was elected president of the Region, said in his presidential address that “the General Zionists of America do not have and do not share any common political program with the so called General Zionists in Israel.” He warned American Zionists against contributing funds for political activities of the General Zionist Party in Israel. “If the Zionists of America will be fully informed of the issues, they will refuse to go into any partnership or have any direct association with the Party’s political activities,” he declared.
