Sen. John J. Sparkman (D., Ala.) today forecast that members of Congress from Northern industrial areas will join with Southern Democrats to defeat President Truman’s civil rights program.

Sen. Sparkman said that a Fair Employment Practices Bill “would have an even greater impact on the northern industrial areas than it would on the South. For that reason you are going to find many Northern industrial areas voting against it along with the Southerners.”
