More than $750,000 was made available to the United Jewish Appeal here today at a Southwest regional conference attended by delegates from communities in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and other states in the area.
Sen. Wayne Morse, featured speaker at the all-day parley, likened the people of Israel to the American pioneers in their determination to build a better world based on the democratic principles. He also emphasized that by “assuring the existence of a strong and stable outpost of democracy in the Middle East” the people of the U.S. would be strengthening their own security. “To aid the U.J.A.,” the Senator declared, “means to aid Israel; to aid Israel means to bolster the free way of life.”
