The campaign to raise in the United States $500,000 for Palestine land redemption by the Jewish National Fund received further impetus here yesterday when Southwest Jewry, through its representatives at a regional conference, accepted a quota of $40,000 to be raised in this region.
Delegates from Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma attended the all-day session at the Jewish Community Center and heard speakers present their views of the Palestine land problem. Principal speakers were Irving Levitas, member of the philosophy faculty at the University of Chicago, and Leon Gellman, editor of the Jewish Daily Record of St. Louis.
Harry Friedberg, veteran Zionist leader of this city, was elected honorary president of the Southwest Region. Prof. Gustave Klausner of St. Louis University was named president. Permanent headquarters of the region will be established at St. Louis.
