The Soviet Army newspaper Red Star charged last week that Israel was bent on frustrating Middle East peace efforts and was planning to trigger a new war. The paper claimed that the successors to the late Premier Levi Eshkol “not only remain loyal to the old goals of his government but are using the same means to achieve them–methods aimed at frustrating any efforts for a peaceful settlement of the Middle East conflict, the arms race and armed provocations.” According to Red Star, Israel “is ready to unleash another big war in the Middle East to achieve its expansionist goals.”
