Lebanon’s announced candidacy of Dr. Charies Malik for election to the presidency of the forthcoming 12th General Assembly is being backed by all 11 of the Arab member states here and is expected to receive the votes of the bloc of Communist countries, according to a statement made today by Dr. Karim Azkoul of Lebanon at a press conference here.
Dr. Malik’s candidacy was announced a fortnight ago in spite of the fact that Sir Leslie Knox Munro of New Zealand evidently had a clear track for election as head of the Assembly this year.
