Vassily Donin, a member of a Gestapo unit which operated in the Leningrad area and who evaded arrest for 20 years, was tried and sentenced to death in Luga, it was reported here today from Leningrad.
Donin, who was charged with participating in the torture and murder of Jews, Gypsies and other Soviet citizens, was sentenced after a two-week trial. A number of witnesses, including several from outside of Russia, testified. Donin changed his name and occupation and it took Soviet authorities 20 years to trace him.
