Mikhail Zand, a Soviet Jewish activist was released from prison in a state of total exhaustion following a two-week hunger strike, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned from reliable sources in Moscow today. Zand was imprisoned in a round-up of militant Jews on the eve of the 24th Soviet Communist Party Congress which opened in Moscow on March 31. Earlier, Zand a professor of Persian literature, was fired from his job at the Institute of Jewish Studies in Moscow. The JTA reported yesterday that he was dismissed last month following his denunciation by fellow faculty members.
