The Soviet Olympic Committee has rejected an Israeli plea to permit Jewish athletes from the USSP to participate in the Fifth World Maccabiah which opens here September 15, the Israel Olympic Committee announced today.
The Israeli unit released an exchange of letters in which Yoseph Yekutiel, a member of the Israeli committee, asked the Russian group to assist Jewish athletes to visit Israel to participate in the all-Jewish games. In a brief reply, the Russians regretted they would be unable to permit such participation.
