A roster of distinguished Soviet artists last night performed chamber music by a Russian-Jewish composer, Moisei Vainberg, and the concert included readings of verse by Jewish poets, according to a Moscow dispatch to the New York Herald Tribune today. The concert was held at the Moscow Conservatory, and was hailed by Tass, the Soviet news agency, as “a great success.”
Vainberg, who is 43, has been praised by leading Soviet musicologists and composers as a musical writer whose work “has grown increasingly” in the last few years, according to Tass. The performance of his music to the words of Jewish poems was considered as unusual.
