An evening on behalf of Soviet Jewry will be held at Madison Square Garden here Dec. 13, the second night of Chanukah. Entitled “Freedom Lights for Soviet Jewry,” the program will feature “the Leningrad Trials,” a dramatic presentation written by Michael Pozin, a recent Jewish Russian emigre to Israel. A spokesman for the Center for Russian Jewry, which is sponsoring the evening in cooperation with the Jewish communities and Soviet Jewry committees of the greater New York, New Jersey and Connecticut area, said the event would provide an opportunity for Jews in the metropolitan area “to show the Russian government and our own political leaders that American Jews are very deeply concerned about the plight of our brothers in the Soviet Union.” Proceeds from the event will be used to continue the Soviet Jewry movement, especially the education and action programs of the Center and the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry, the spokesman said.
