A house-to-house survey will be conducted by Jewish Communists in a number of Soviet cities to establish whether Jews observe Passover, it was announced here today in the Moscow Emes, a Communist daily.

This measure is a part of the anti-religious campaign which has been started among the Jewish population in connection with the approaching Passover next week.

“It would be a grave mistake to think that religion and nationalism have already been liquidated everywhere in the Soviet Union,” the paper writes. “There are still workers who are backward and who observe religion.”

The Emes quotes from the Jewish press in Poland what Dr. Bernhard Kahn, the European director of the Joint Distribution Committee, has been saying about the desperate situation of the Jewish population of Pol#ad and the urgent demand for aid put to him by representatives of the Polish Jews.

Der Stern, a Jewish Communist paper published in the Ukraine, especially warns the Jewish colonists in the autonomous Jewish regions of the Ukraine not to indulge in the baking of Matzoh or to abstain from work in the fields on the days of Passover.
