The Soviet ban on passage of refugees through the eastern zone of Austria, imposed three weeks ago, has apparently been lifted, it was indicated today. The influx of refugees from Poland and other countries has resumed and 250 are now arriving daily.
Five thousand Polish Jews are still massed on the Polish-Czech border, however, waiting for the frontier to be re-opened. The Czech authorities closed the border about a month ago after several protests by Britain.
There are now about 2,000 refugees in the various Jewish hostels in Vienna, but the DP’s move into the American zone almost as quickly as new ones arrive. U.S. authorities are now admitting all displaced persons.
