Soviet navel vessels occupied with minesweeping in the Gulf of Suez have completed their work and have left the area, It was reported here today. The operation was commanded from the Soviet helicopter carrier Leningrad which reportedly left before the minesweepers.
According to Israeli sources, the Russian Mediterranean fleet now numbers about 50 vessels, the same as before the Yom Kippur War. It consists of missile-launching cruisers of the Kara type and sophisticated communication ships, one of them apparently on an electronic surveillance mission off the Lebanese coast. There are about 25 Soviet naval units in the Indian Ocean, the sources said.
