An article implying that the Soviet Government does not consider Russian Jewry as part of world Jewry has been published in New Times, an English language weekly propaganda organ published by the USSR in Moscow.
The article, by a writer named Zinoviy Sheynis, leveled a sharp attack against “the idea of the national unity of the Jews of the world. ” Such a notion, said Sheynis, “is empty talk, designed to divert the Jewish workers from the class struggle, and lead them into the quagmire of national separation.” The Jewish problem, he stated, “will be finally solved along the lines of proletarian internationalism.”
Sheynis also repeated the customary Soviet attack against Israel. The Israeli Government, he declared, “wants to make of the country an outpost of United States imperialism, and is trying to maintain in Asia and in Africa the colonial empire destroyed by the national liberation movements.”
(In Washington, the Soviet Embassy disseminated a letter, purportedly written by a group of the Daghestan Soviet Republic, denying recent world press reports that the Jewish community there was under persecution. However, there was no mention in the letter of the article reviving the ancient blood libel against Jews which the official organ of the Communist Party in Daghestan carried recently.)
