A careful review of the latest Moscow metropolitan newspapers disclosed here today that, while the Soviet Government officially designated and observed May 19 as “Israel Day” at the Soviet International Modern Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Exhibition in Moscow, no mention of this event was made in the Russian domestic press.
Israel was honored at the exhibition, and some Israeli products were publicly lauded. But such leading newspapers as Pravda and Izvestia failed to report these facts. The event was the first time a Soviet exposition recognized Israel in this manner. However, it was noted, Soviet authorities released the story abroad.
It was also noted that details of United States participation in the exhibition were similarly suppressed. Participation of the other nations, including such Western countries as Italy, were reported in detail.
