The Soviet government will equal whatever contributions are made for the industrialization of the declassed Russian Jews by the Ort. the Society for the Promotion of Agricultural and Technical Trades among the Jews of Eastern Europe. The arrangement was confirmed in a communication from V.V. Schmidt, vice-chairman of the Council of the People’s Commissars, to Howard S. Cullman, national chairman of the Ort Campaign for Industrial Reconstruction.
The letter guarantees the Ort the financial and other assistance of “the government the industrial cooperatives, and the local Soviets, for all trade enterprises and artisan groups which will be supplied with credits, raw materials and equipment out of the Ort Reconstruction Fund” The letter was transmitted by Sanl G. Bron, general manager of the Amtorg Trading Corporation, the official purchasing agency of the Soviet in this country.
