Rabbis Schneerson and Perlov, sentenced at Gomel to six months hard labor following their conviction for performing rabbinical functions which the court held to be properly the jurisdiction of the state, have had their sentences annulled, owing to their advanced age. The court sentencing the two aged rabbis was to have tried all the Jewish ecclesiastical dignitaries of the Gomel province for giving advice and settling cases in Jewish arbitration courts known as the “Beth Din”. Rabbi Barashansky, who had previously served a seven months sentence, was a witness at the trial and testified that he and the rabbis arraigned had performed ### which are within the province of the orthodox rabbi.
