The Spanish or Spanish Jewish origin of Christopher Columbus has come up again in connection with the celebration of Columbus Day yesterday.
The “A. B. C.”, the leading Spanish newspaper, announced yesterday that it offers a prize of 50,000 pesetas for the best essay which will prove that Columbus was a Spaniard and not an Italian. This consequently would prove that Columbus was a Marrano, a Crypto-Jew.
The final date for submitting the essays was set by the “A. B. C.” as April 1, 1927. Persons of any nationality and country are eligible to participate in the contest.
