A delegation from Hapoel Hamizrachi of America today called upon Spanish Ambassador Senor Jose F. de Lequerica to appeal for the return of the Finally children. The Ambassador told the delegation that the Spanish Government does not know the whereabouts of the missing Jewish orphans. He promised that his government would bend every effort to locate the children. “I would like you to assure the Jewish people that we will do everything possible to solve this problem,” he said.
The Finaly children, Gerald and Robert, 12 and 11 years old, respectively, whose parents were killed in the war, were placed in the custody of a Miss Brun, director of the Municipal Children’s Home in Grenoble, France, by their parents in 1944. Miss Brun, a devout Catholic, baptized the boys and vowed that she would bring them up to enter the Holy Orders. When their aunt, Mrs. Rosner, came to retrieve them, she discovered that they were gone. It is alleged that they were spirited out of France and into Spain.
