The special court today released four Nazis who appeared in court in full uniform of the Storm Troops, after they had publicly apologized to a Jewish cafe proprietor, Loewy, for attacking his cafe and insulting him and his wife.
The trial revealed that the attack had been instigated by a Christian cafe owner, a competitor of Loewy’s, who had first intoxicated the Nazis.
Another curious development at the trial was the reading into the record of a letter received by Loewy from a steady patron, Mrs. Friedlander, who apologized for being unable any longer to patronize his Jewish cafe “since it is unbecoming the mother-in-law of Goebbels.”
Paul Joseph Goebbels is the editor of “Der Angriff,” Nazi organ, and head of the Hitler party in Berlin.
