An intensive telephone effort by New Yorkers to aid the economy of Israel will be launched the morning of Nov. 16 under the sponsorship of the Greater New York Committee for State of Israel Bonds, in the Grace Building, 43 West 42nd Street.
On hand for the opening of the “Dial-for-Israel” three-day marathon by volunteers and celebrities, will be seven members of the Knesset, who are visiting the U.S. at the invitation of Congress. They will include Yisrael Yeshayahu, Speaker of the Knesset, Art Ankorion, Menachem Beigin, Yitzhak Ben Aharon, Chaika Grossman, Yosef Tamir, and Zerach Warhaftig.
The “Dial-for-Israel” program is part of a nationwide effort to provide $100 million in cash to relieve Israel’s critical financial position and to help expand industrial production in order to avoid sharp increases in unemployment. The cash drive for Israel Bond funds in the New York metropolitan area is under the leadership of Sam Paznik of Queens, synagogue chairman of the Greater New York Israel Bond campaign, Max Abrams, Mrs. Lily Mars and Seymour Scheer, all of whom are serving as chairman. The nationwide cash campaign chairman is Sidney Cooperman, a New York banker.
