After an all-day debate at the meeting today of the International Federation of Airline Pilots Association (IFALPA) it was decided not to take any action against Israel for downing the Libyan airliner. Reliable sources said after the closed meeting that the American Airline Pilots Association (ALPA) opposed any action. Earlier in the day it was reported from Tel Aviv that ALPA President Nicholas O’Connell said his group would oppose any proposals to apply sanctions against Israel if such a motion had been placed on the IFALPA agenda, ALPA reportedly favors an international pilots committee to study ways and means to prevent similar incidents in the future.
