Special prayers for Israel were offered in synagogues throughout South Africa this week-end, as all rabbis and ministers participated in a special service drawn up by South African Jewish religious authorities and devoted their sermons to the current situation in the Middle East. They also added their pleas for the current emergency appeal for Israel now taking place in this country.
Twelve mass rallies on behalf of the emergency appeal for funds also took place in suburbs of this city tonight, as well as in a number of other places throughout the country. It was reported that the response to the appeal was growing rapidly, with large contributions coming from synagogues, organizations and individuals.
