The heads of leading Jewish organizations in London and Paris were represented by Hungarian Jewish leaders today as recognizing the necessity of establishing a special committee to deal with the position of Hungarian Jewry. Word to that effect was brought back by President Samuel Stern of the Budapest Jewish Community and Alexander Eppler, general secretary, from conferences with western European leaders of Jewry.
The delegation, it was stated, also obtained pledges of considerable financial aid on condition that wealthy Hungarian Jews contribute correspondingly. It is hoped that special offices for the relief of Hungarian Jews will shortly be opened in Paris and London. Agreement of the Hungarian Government, it was pointed out, will be necessary before relief action can be started.
The delegation expressed special thanks to the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, the HIAS-ICA Emigration Association, the Jewish Colonization Association, and the World ORT Federation. They were received by Baron Robert de Rothschild, Morris C. Troper, Louis Oungre, Edouard Oungre, Lord Reading, Neville Laski and Israel Sieff.
