With the approaching publication of the Partition Commission’s report, speculation on the proposals for Palestine’s future status is growing daily. The laborite Daily Herald today carried a forecast by A.L. Easterman, its special correspondent, that the future would bring a truncated mandate with a reduced Jewish immigration and prohibition of land sales, resulting in the actual scrapping of the bal-four Declaration.
hese forecasts are regarded with the greatest skepticism in informed circles and are openly derided by the colonial office as “pure speculation.”
Meanwhile, the Cabinet on Wednesday will discuss Colonial Secretary Malcolm Mac-Donald’s report on the pales tine situation and measures for restoration of order, and possibly also the main implications of the awaited commission’s report. no decisions on future policy, however, will be taken before the re-convening of the house of Commons at the beginning of November.
