The 25th anniversary of the formation of the Labor Zionist youth movement was celebrated throughout this city last night at impressive ceremonies attended by youths who came here from all parts of Israel.
Premier David Ben Gurion, who extended greetings to the youth delegates at the opening of their conference, declared that the two “striking episodes” which marked the history of the Jewish people during the past quarter of a century were the “disastrous destruction of millions of Jews” and the establishment of the Jewish state, which “will guarantee the future existence of the Jewish people.”
The Israel Premier stated that the end of the chapter in which Jews were wiped out is not yet in eight, since “not physical but spiritual warfare is currently being waged against Jewry.” He also said that the threats “menacing the country’s independence have not yet been dispelled.”
Premier Ben Gurion made a bitter attack on the Communist Party for the “hand it extended in the 1929 disturbances,” which, he said, “were aimed at destruction of the country’s settlements.” He urged Israel’s youth to “cooperate in the upbuilding of the state–which is based on true freedom, equality of rights and true brotherhood.”
