The economic condition of the Jews in East Europe continues to be very grave, particularly in Poland, although the political situation has improved, Sholom Asch, famous Jewish novelist, who arrived in the United States on Sunday, declared in an interview with the correspondent of the Jewish Daily Bulletin.
The Palestine events, he said, which have brought about a resurgence of inspiring national feeling in world Jewry, has caused a quarrel between the Bund and Zionist ranks in Poland because of the former’s anti-Zionist attitude. The Zionist elements are now fighting the Jewish schools in retaliation. He stated he had radioed the Polish Zionist paper “Hajnt” that he would discontinue his contributions if it did not cease its attacks on the Jewish schools.
Mr. Asch will remain in America several months, devoting himself exclusively to literary work.
