Hundreds of marriages were solemnised by the Rabbinate in Tel Aviv to-day, it being Lag B’Omer, the 33rd. day of the counting of the Omer, on which all the restrictive laws in force on the other days of the Omer, including the prohibition of marriages, are suspended.
Large numbers of marriage ceremonies took place also all over the country.
The usual crowds of Jews went to Meron, near Safed, to visit, according to traditional custom, the grave of Rabbi Simeon Ben Yohai. Among the pilgrims were the Hebrew Poet Laureate, Chaim Nachman Bialik, the famous Jewish painter Marc Chagall, who has come from Paris on a visit to Palestine, and other writers and artists. They watched the pilgrimage of the Hassidim and mixed with the Haluzim and took part in their rejoicings.
