The emergency call issued a month ago by David A. Brown, National Chairman of the United Jewish Campaign, “Borrow and Advance” in order to create a fund of $3,100,000 to assure the continuation of the Joint Distribution Committee’s activities without interruption during the summer, has again been answered with a substantial sum, campaign headquarters announced.
St. Louis, Mo., forwarded an advance of $50,000, duplicating its action of a year ago. The St. Louis Committee is headed by Sydney M. Schoenberg. This sum constitutes St. Louis’ quota for the $3,000,000 fund.
Baltimore has sent in a check for $20,000. The committee is headed by L. Manuel Hendler.
The amount of $12,000 has been received from the Columbus, Ohio Zone, of which Edward J. Goodman is chairman. The State Committee for lowa has sent $11,000.
The advance sums already received from several States have been increased by additional amounts. Among others, the State of Connecticut, has to date contributed to the emergency fund a total of $8,500, and the New York City Committee with David M. Bressler as acting chairman and Paul Baerwald as Treasurer, have supplemented their previous advances to the extent of $60,000.
The total amount of advance payments so far received and the reports concerning the efforts being made by various communities to secure the required amounts, strengthen the hope at campaign headquarters that a substantial part of the emergency fund will be received during the current month.
