Two young Arab women arrested Monday near the Western Wall have confessed they planned to stab Jews in the Western Wall plaza, Jerusalem police reported.
According to the police, the pair was apprehended by two suspicious policewomen who followed them into a tunnel near the wall. The suspects had knives in their pockets, which they purchased shortly before their arrest, the police said.
The police also claimed to have obtained confessions from eight of 16 people arrested last week on suspicion of membership in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. They allegedly belonged to a terrorist cell operating in the Beit Hanina neighborhood and the Shuafat refugee camp north of the city.
Police say the suspects confessed to throwing 15 firebombs at 25 buses and to dozens of stone-throwing assaults on Israeli cars. The police said more arrests were expected.
