When the seventeenth season of summer music at the Lewisohn Stadium opens on Tuesday night it will start with a program of eight weeks nightly performances by the Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestra. Not only symphonic repertoire but grand opera will be featured as well. Jose Iturbi, the Spanish conductor, will direct the orchestra for the first three weeks.

In the course of the opening ceremonies the two honorary chairmen of the Stadium concerts—Adolph Lewisohn and Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia—will speak.

Following Iturbi’s three weeks’ regime, Eugene Ormandy, conductor of the Minneapolis orchestras, will conduct for a fortnight. The last three weeks will be under the baton of Willem Van Hoogstraten who will return for his thirteenth consecutive year to the stadium.
