American Jewry is “a hundred percent” behind Israel in the present crisis, according to Mrs. Golda Meir, Israels Foreign Minister. The Israeli diplomat made that statement here today upon her return from another overnight speaking engagement.
“Not since 1948,” said Mrs. Meir, “have I noted that enthusiastic a response to Israel’s problems, or such understanding of our country’s position among the Jews of America.” Mrs. Meir has been speaking at State of Israel Bond rallies and at other meetings in various parts of the country, sandwiching in her hurried trips between arduous duties as head of the Israel delegation.
“I find,” she declared, “that the American Jews turn out in large numbers larger than in any years since 1948–and that they are full of confidence in Israel, full of hope on behalf of Israel, in complete sympathy with everyone of Israel’s current problems whether in the realm of politics or regard to the country’s security, or in regard to the need for bolstering Israel’s economy. It has been very encouraging and invigorating.”
