A threat to the Jews of Austria who fail to adapt themselves to Austrian Fascism was voiced by Prince Ernst von Starhemberg, Austrian Vice-Chancellor, in an interview, the Neuer Wiener Journal reported.
“Jews who come into conflict with our laws and who do not wish to adapt themselves to our inner development must take the consequences or cease to be members of the State and community,” the Heimwehr leader was quoted as saying.
“The Jewish question obviously exists; it would be absurd to deny it,” Prince von Starhemberg declared.
“The new Austria,” he said, “will create laws providing for the welfare of the population and the development of the State. The Jews must subordinate themselves to these laws, taking into account the feeling of the overwhelming majority of the population. The problem will be settled for this section. But the others must take the consequence of any opposition.”
