The State Department will issue no official comment on the reported forced landing of an Israel airliner in Bulgaria until the Department is in possession of the facts on what a Department spokesman termed “this unfortunate occurrence.”
The State Department explained that it is awaiting reports on the incident through its regular reporting channels. Since the U.S. maintains no diplomatic relations with Bulgaria, information will not come to the Department directly from that country. However, continuing reports are reaching the State Department from Greek and Israel sources.
