A State Department spokesman today termed “inaccurate” a report from London that the U.S. Government has urged the British to make another attempt to reconcile the differences between Jews and Arabs in Palestine before submitting the issue to the United Nations.
The spokesman would not comment, however, when asked whether his statement meant that the current Angle-American talks were concerned only with the form of the British presentation of the question to the U.N.
Among the questions on the U.S. position on Greece and the Middle East which have been submitted to the State Department by members of Congress, through Senator Arthur Vandenberg, are several dealing with Palestine, it was learned today. The queries are to be answered tomorrow when Under-Secretary of State Dean Acheson resumes his testimony before the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
