State Department spokesman Robert J. McCloskey said today that the U.S. Government deplored violations of the UN cease-fire by both Arabs and Israel. He said that the U.S. Government was counselling restraint to both parties. He indicated that the U.S. was disturbed especially about developments in the Suez area. Apparently side-stepping a question about what was being done to dampen down friction, he said the U.S. was engaged in bilateral talks with the Soviet Union and also was a party to the Four Power talks at the UN.
