A review of economic conditions in Israel was presented here yesterday to the State Department by Moshe Witkon, new economic counsellor of the Israeli embassy. Mr. Witkon was introduced in the State Department by Ambassador Eliahu Elath and conferred with George McGhee, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs.
Ambassador Elath today denied that Israel contemplates restrictions of Jewish immigration. Questioned about rumors that Israel’s economic condition threatens to make curtailment of immigration necessary, the Ambassador said: “Israel was established to provide room for all Jews who want a haven a home. No control of immigration is contemplated.”
