No restrictions on President Nasser’s movements in the United States during his visit to the United Nations have been formulated. Secretary of State Herter declared at his press conference here today. He said the question of inviting Nasser to Washington was one for President Eisenhower to decide. He added that so far no formal invitation has been issued by the White House.
Meanwhile, Henry Cabot Lodge, former United States Ambassador to the United Nations and now a Vice Presidential candidate, announced in Eric, Pa., that he thought it would be a good thing for Nasser to tour the U.S. while he is in the country to attend the UN General Assembly.
President Eisenhower will attend the UN session in New York to make an address but it was not indicated if he would meet with Nasser at that time. State Department sources said, however, they expected Nasser to meet with Mr. Eisenhower in the course of Nasser’s visit. They revealed that arrangements for hospitality to Nasser were under way.
