Winding up a tour of the three principal United States consulates in the Reich, George Brandt, a State Department official, was in Berlin today on a mission which may have a great bearing on the ultimate outcome of the Evian conference
The purpose of the trip was restricted officially to surveying visa conditions and the personnel of American consulates, Mr. Brandt told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. results will be reported to Myron C. Taylor, American member of the inter-governmental refugee-aid committee, and to the State Department.
Some quarters felt that Mr. Brandt’s visit may coincide with attempts to clear up some of the problems facing the committee when it meets in London on August 3, chief of which is the question of possibilities for transfer of funds of emigres. Mr. Brandt has already visited the Stuttgart and Vienna consulates. He is remaining in Berlin for the rest of the week, and will arrive in London for the opening of the conference.
