Neither the State Department nor the Pentagon would confirm reports today that the United States has agreed to sell Israel 16-18 more supersonic F-4 Phantom fighter-bombers. The report, published in the Washington Post, was attributed to “well informed sources.” It said that the first deliveries, at the rate of four to five aircraft a month are expected to start this month and continue through December. The Pentagon this morning referred queries to the State Department. The latter had no comment. According to the Washington Post the agreement to supply Israel with more Phantoms was reached over the week-end during discussions at the State Department and the Department of Defense.
