The Egyptian Embassy here denied reports that the Egyptian Government had seized a Ford assembly plant in Alexandria. State Department sources also said that the Ford plant had not been seized.
Mohammed Habib, Embassy press counselor, said his government did not seize the plant and that “there has not been any seizure of property, private or corporate in Egypt.” He added that he thought the reports were “an attempt to confuse the issue and to cover Zionist embarrassment after the United Nations Security Council censure of Israel” on November 25.
The reports from Alexandria said that the Egyptian customs had taken over the plant in a dispute with Ford officials in Egypt over payments of some customs duties. The press counselor here said that the Arab League boycott against Israel had nothing to do with the dispute.
