The State Department said today that preparations are continuing for President Nixon’s trip to Moscow May 22 for a summit meeting with Soviet leaders. Department spokesman Robert J. McCloskey replied “no” when asked by a reporter if the trip might be affected by the situation in Vietnam. But independent observers here indicated that the President has considered and may still be considering cancelling the summit meeting in view of the reported massive Soviet support for the North Vietnamese forces fighting in South Vietnam.
