The Senate Foreign Relations Committee today asked the State Department for an opinion on the resolution recntly introduced in the Upper House by Senator Millard E. Tydings of Maryland. In it he urged that President Roosevelt protest against the persecution of the Jews in Germany by the Nazi regime.
The Committee informed the State Department that it desires an official opinion before proceeding to consider the resolution.
Senator Tydings’s resolution calls upon President Roosevelt in the name of the American people to communicate to the German government an “unequivocal statement” on the “discriminations and oppressions imposed by the Reich on its Jewish citizens.”
Yesterday the New York State went on record as favoring the Tydings resolution and the State Assembly is expected to pass a similar expression of approval in the next few days.
