Israel is being urged by the State Department to exercise maximum restraint in the face of Syrian provocations, and to seek relief through the machinery of the United Nations.

Government sources indicated that Israel asked the United States Government to use diplomatic influence to restrain Syria from allowing continued terrorist activities against Israel.
