State Department spokesman Lincoln White said today that the United States Government has “no information whatsoever” that would confirm Soviet and United Arab Republic charges that Israel is mobilizing military forces near the Jordan frontier.
Mr. White said the State Department’s information showed that reports alleging such action by Israel were false. He noted Israel’s formal denial last Thursday of allegations emanating from Communist and UAR sources.
Mr. White was asked to comment on reports that the State Department had issued a precautionary warning to Israel and the UAR to refrain from action involving Jordan. He replied that “it is standard procedure for us, on every occasion we have, to ask people not to do things that could cause tensions.”
