State Department sources made known today that the United States considers the movement of heavy military equipment into Jerusalem for the tenth anniversary parade to be a violation of the general armistice agreement between Israel and Jordan. Israel Ambassador Abba Eban was informed of the United States views yesterday in a communication from Christian A. Herter, Under Secretary of State.
The State Department continued today top-level discussion of the Jerusalem parade issue. The Department, it was learned, is taking an extremely serious view of the Israel Government position on the parade and the United States is considering a public expression on the matter.
(At the United Nations headquarters in New York, Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold conferred this morning with Israel Ambassador Abba Eban on the military parade in Jerusalem which is scheduled to take place Thursday. Both sides were uncommunicative after the conference.)
