State Dept. Optimistic on Arab-israel Agreement on Water Plan

State Department sources indicated today that the United States Government is optimistic on prospects for success of the Johnston Plan for Near Eastern regional water development.

The Department feels both Israel and the Arabs genuinely want agreement and that considerable progress has been made. Eric Johnston, President Eisenhower’s special envoy, will return to the Near East this spring.
