The state-sponsored Jewish theatre of Bucharest, IKUF, is preparing a series of anti-Zionist plays for presentation later this season, it was reported here today from Rumania. First of the series is I. Taranu’s “Under the Shadow of the Palm,” described as depicting the “fight of honest Jews in Rumania against the Zionists.”
The theatre, which receives an annual subsidy of 25,000,000 lei from the state, employs 105 actors and other personnel. At present the theatre is presenting two Soviet plays, a play about Jewish life in a concentration camp and a fourth production about Rumanian life since the establishment of the present regime.
