Hope that the Society would array itself definitely on the side of tolerance flared up momentarily last week when Gustav W. M. Wieboldt, Queens attorney and president # the Steuben New York State Council, threw down the gauntlet to the rabidly Nazi Friends of New Germany, warning it in effect that his group would stand for no attempted encroachment on Steuben’s hold on “the moral leadership of the German-Americans in this country.”
